Listen…You might find You already know it’s time Your Relationship Must End
Your inner critic is that little, or not so little voice that criticizes, second guesses and just generally provides a negative soundtrack. Everyone has one, the level to which you let it interfere with our happiness and mental health is up to you. This would have/should have/ could have loop of anxiety producing and shaming self talk does not assist us. Some people believe that the little voice that shames us is motivating. That is not true, it does not assist us in positive change, what is does is contribute to avoidance. Avoidance can include procrastination, addictive behaviour (eating, drinking, shopping etc). Avoidance feeds the inner critic.
How to Break up with your Inner Critic
- Build awareness of it. Get to know it, understand how it works. A journal is a great tool for this.
- Personify it, name it, draw it. Take your power back.
Catch it when its in action, stop and review what it is telling you, is it true? - Escape from your relationship with your inner critic. Stop listening when its active shift your attention away. Deep breathing, complex activities can help.
